Where: La Trobe University, Bundaroo, Melbourne Victoria
When: 13th - 15th December 2025
Student Talks – Showcase your research in a supportive environment. It doesn't have to be something you've done new, but just a presentation on your field of research!
Plenary Talks – Hear from leading mathematics students on their research and journey.
Workshop - Learn about how Representation Theory can see use in Machine Learning!
Poster Competition - We want undergraduate students to attend too and have a chance at presenting on a topic of their interest! The postgraduate students will vote on a winner of $150!
Social Events – Opportunities to connect with peers and colleagues.
Aligned with AustMS 2025 – Held back-to-back with the AustMS Annual Meeting.
Travel Support – Available through the [AustMS student support Scheme] for students also presenting at AustMS.

Chasing the Wind: An Introduction to Fluid Dynamics and the Analysis of Partial Differential Equations.
Nearly all matter in the universe can be described as a fluid—any material that deforms under stress, not necessarily a liquid. Despite their ubiquity, fluid dynamics remains one of the most chaotic and nonlinear phenomena in classical physics and is still poorly understood. It has challenged mathematicians, physicists, and engineers alike, and continues to be a rich and open area of research. In this talk, we will explore some of the fundamental principles of fluid dynamics, derive the Navier–Stokes and Euler equations, and introduce key theoretical ideas and techniques developed for the analysis of these and other partial differential equations.

Around a Campfire:
My Interdisciplinary Story
In this talk, I take an autobiographical look at my research journey across mathematics, physics, and political science, using my own interdisciplinary experiences as a case study in how knowledge is produced. I reflect on the ways our identities, assumptions, and disciplinary backgrounds shape what we see as “facts,” and argue that being aware of the “we” in our research is essential to our own personal growth as researchers. Through an example of methodological change in network research within political science, I explore how reflexivity can open new directions for inquiry. I also discuss the structural and personal challenges of working across disciplines—the uncertainty, the struggle to define one’s research identity—and how these moments of disorientation can be both inevitable and productive in interdisciplinary practice.
Details TBA
